Introduction
This week we will be focusing on shapes and geometry. We will learn about 2D and 3D shapes, their properties, and how to identify them.
By the end of this week, you should be able to recognise and describe the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
Learning Objectives
- Draw 2-D shapes and make 3-D shapes using modelling materials; recognise 3-D shapes in different orientations and describe them
- Recognise angles as a property of shape or a description of a turn
- Identify right angles, recognise that two right angles make a half-turn, three make three quarters of a turn and four a complete turn; identify whether angles are greater or less than a right angle
- Identify horizontal and vertical lines and pairs of perpendicular and parallel lines

2D shapes are flat shapes with length and width. 3D shapes have
length, width, and height.
A right angle is 90 degrees, like the corner of a square. Parallel
lines never meet, perpendicular lines meet at right angles.
Faces are the flat surfaces of 3D shapes, edges are where faces
meet, and vertices are the corners.
